Alina Melnikova (b. 1983) is a visual artist born in Vilnius (Lithuania), living and working in Vilnius and Barcelona (Spain). She has exhibited her works widely in Europe - Austria, Spain, Germany, Poland and Finland- since graduating from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2008. Although Alina’s work wanders among painting, drawing, performance and installation, her preferred medium is oil painting. Through different mediums, Alina explores visual aspects of seduction through notions of sensuality, sexuality and erotism. In some paintings the artist plays with stereotypes commonly attached to women: faddiness, extreme emotionality and overbearing irrationality. In other paintings is almost impossible to define the subject by clear notions on gender identity and categories of manliness or femininity.
