Artist Profile
Alida Ymele
Cameroonian artist
Alida Ymele is a Cameroonian artist who lives and works in Douala. She began to develop the artistic spirit from a very young age and tested by the death of her parents, she found refuge, peace and serenity in painting. Originally from western Cameroon (rural and agricultural region), she comes from a family of farmers and housewives. In her work, she is interested in issues of precariousness, the fragility of humans as a whole and the daily lives of domestic women in their socio-professional world, as well as their difficulties in integrating into current society. Indeed, she expresses herself through the breaks that she designs, then photographs them and gives them an aesthetic aspect according to her primitive emotions, the portraits of women found on the web and sometimes through her self-portraits.
