Artist Profile
Amanda Shingirai Mushate
Contemporary artist who lives and works Zimbabwe
Amanda Shingirai Mushate’s abstract paintings blend looping linework with amorphous blocks of color, generating networks that suggest geographical and interpersonal connections. The artist, who is based in Harare, Zimbabwe, earned her certificate in fine art from the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Visual Arts Studios and took a workshop with the painter John Kotze during her studies. Mushate has exhibited extensively within Harare, as well as in Paris and Cape Town. Painting abstract fantasy realms allows her to think about the future—without the narrative constraints of figuration. Mushate also makes sculptural and mixed-media works.
