Artist Profile

Elijah Turrell
Liturgical artist based in the USA
Elijah Turrell is a liturgical artist based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who specializes in Christian iconography. With a background in Pastoral Ministry from the Moody Bible Institute and a BA in Sociology from the University of Oklahoma, Elijah's artistic journey began in 2017 when he started studying Iconography under the mentorship of Dr. Irina Bradley. His work focuses on creating sacred art that serves as an extension of prayer, with a particular emphasis on the theme of the Cross. Elijah’s artistic practice incorporates traditional media such as egg tempera, glair, watercolor, and stone carving, often drawing inspiration from the manuscript and stone-carving traditions of 7th-9th century Celtic monasteries. His work has been exhibited in the UK and Spain, and he continues to explore both Byzantine and Celtic iconographic styles, seeking to contribute to a tradition of sacred art that speaks across generations.
