Zearo (b. 1996, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is a London-based contemporary painter whose autobiographical practice explores themes of longing, desire, memory, male identity, and same-sex intimacy. After earning a Fine Art Diploma in Selangor, he completed a Graduate Diploma (2020) followed by an MA in Painting (2021–23) at the Royal College of Art. Working primarily with soft pastels on handmade paper, his intimate portraits—often depicting figures in varied states of repose or introspection—meld Southeast Asian visual traditions with a queer perspective, challenging conventional notions of masculinity and the male gaze. Zearo’s art weaves together memory, psychology, and cultural identity into quietly powerful narratives.
