Artist Profile

Indra Joachimsthal
Fine Arts graduate from Royal Academy of Art in The Hague
Indra Joachimsthalhas developed a practice rooted in automatism, both as a method and a subject of critical inquiry. Over the past four years, she has explored its historical evolution—from its origins in Spiritualist rituals and psychoanalytic sessions to its adoption by the Surrealists as a gateway to the unconscious and intuitive creation. In Joachimsthal’s work, automatism becomes a tool for navigating the tension between inner impulse and external influence, questioning where spontaneous expression truly originates: from within the self or from beyond it. Her practice weaves together writing, drawing, and painting to access and reflect this liminal space of creation. Indra is a Fine Arts graduate from KABK (2024/2025) and previously studied Interactive Performance Design at HKU from 2018 to 2021.
