Artist Profile
Gusenga Patrick
Rwandan visual artist
Gusenga Patrick (b. 1998) is a Rwandan visual artist whose work celebrates African identity, natural beauty, and cultural pride. Born the third of five children, his artistic journey began at a young age, captivating his community with hand-drawn cartoons and movie characters. Encouraged by his family, he pursued formal art education and later specialized in digital media production and computer graphics, becoming a consultant in the field at a remarkably young age. Gusenga’s work blends traditional painting—primarily using acrylics—with digital art, exploring themes of self-love, strength, and resistance to harmful beauty standards. Drawing inspiration from everyday life, Rwandan history, and social issues, he uses earthy tones like black and brown to reflect strength, mystery, and connection to the land. His art invites viewers into spaces of reflection and speculation, weaving together cultural narratives and modern expression. Through his creations, Gusenga seeks to empower Africans, especially women and young people, encouraging them to embrace their roots, value, and voice.
