Mingkai He (b. 1995, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China) is a contemporary artist currently living and working in Shanghai. His practice reflects a nuanced engagement with painting and art theory, exploring the intersections between visual language, cultural identity, and the evolving narratives of contemporary society. Mingkai completed his B.A. at the School of Fine Arts, Capital Normal University in Beijing (2016–2020) before pursuing an M.A. in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London (2020–2023). In 2024, he began his PhD in Art Theory at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Mingkai’s work embodies a thoughtful dialogue between traditional techniques and conceptual inquiry, positioning him as a distinctive voice within a new generation of Chinese artists.
