Abi Whitlock

Artist Profile

Abi Whitlock
Contemporary British artist
Abi Whitlock is a contemporary British artist whose work explores the relationship between the human form, water, and light. Focusing on swimmers immersed beneath the surface, she captures the transformative moment when entering water becomes a form of escapism, altering both perception and state of mind. Inspired by life on the coast, childhood memories of learning to swim, and time spent snorkeling and at outdoor pools, her paintings evoke both serenity and sensory immersion. Working in a highly realistic style, Abi emphasizes meticulous detail, giving equal importance to both subject and background to create a fully immersive experience. The interaction of light and water in her work introduces a natural abstraction, distorting forms and enhancing color in unexpected ways. In 2016, she received the prestigious CASS Award for Young Artists at the NOA Competition.
