Miles Tonye (b. 2000) is a Cameroonian artist based in France whose work emerges from instinct, introspection, and emotional impulse. Rather than planning his compositions, he paints from sensation—allowing ideas, images, and even titles to reveal themselves during the process. His practice explores themes of mental struggle, generational conflict, personal memory, and the pressures young people face when navigating choices shaped by family and tradition. Through over one hundred works created in just a few years, Tonye has embraced painting as a transformative space for questioning inherited beliefs, reclaiming agency, and expressing raw inner experience. Still “figuring out” his art Tonye approaches each piece as a moment of honesty, growth, and self-definition.
