Artist Profile

Ashiko Ratovo
Malagasy contemporary artist
Ashiko Ratovo (b. 1995) is a Malagasy contemporary artist whose intuitive watercolor practice unfolds in a fluid, dreamlike language shaped by memory, emotion, and lived experience. Working with watercolor, natural pigments, and acrylic, she creates poetic, abstract compositions that privilege feeling over form and allow images to emerge organically. Her work is deeply autobiographical, exploring themes of dreams, loss, belonging, and the shifting idea of “home,” often informed by personal moments of grief and transformation. A professional artist since 2022, Ratovo gained early recognition after winning a street art competition in 2016 and later refined her practice through the AINGA program at Fondation H. Moving between Antananarivo and Paris, Ratovo is a rising voice in contemporary art, known for a practice that quietly yet powerfully advocates for emotional truth and feminine resilience.
