Kelvin Ngatia Wambugu
Kenyan visual artist
Kelvin Ngatia Wambugu (b. 1997, Kenya) is a Kenyan visual artist who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Maseno University in Kisumu. Working primarily in mixed media, including acrylic and collage on canvas, his practice explores narratives of Black identity, nudity, and sexuality within intimate and introspective settings. Influenced by the literary work of Maya Angelou, Wambugu fuses figurative and abstract elements through subtle, unconventional techniques to create emotionally charged compositions. In the formative stage of his career, he describes his evolving visual language as “Afro-emotionism,” a personal approach that foregrounds emotional depth and the complexities of Black lived experience.
