Artist Profile
Rawan Abbas
Multidisciplinary artist based in Egypt
Rawan Abbas (b. 1996) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Cairo, Egypt, working across textiles, sculpture, installation, and video. Her practice engages with themes of womanhood, social dynamics, and Egyptian history and folklore, shaped by her lived experience as an Egyptian woman. Through material exploration—particularly in textile—she investigates feminine narratives and cultural memory, weaving together personal and collective histories. Abbas has exhibited internationally and participated in residencies. In addition to her studio practice, she facilitates printmaking workshops at the Contemporary Image Collective in Cairo and founded a self-organized printmaking club with her participants. Abbas received her BA from the Faculty of Applied Arts at Helwan University in 2020 and studied Fine Art at Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales through an Erasmus+ grant.
