Artist Profile
Ellen Jantzen
American photographer
Ellen Jantzen is an American photographer whose work centers on surreal photomontage, exploring the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world. Through her ongoing series Life Out of Balance, she constructs meticulously layered images that reflect environmental and political tensions, inviting viewers to question the growing disconnect between human systems and nature. Drawing inspiration from the concept of Koyaanisqatsi, her compositions juxtapose organic and constructed elements to evoke both harmony and dissonance. Jantzen’s work has been widely commissioned and collected, with installations in public and private collections including Stanford University School of Medicine, the New Mexico History Museum, and Microsoft Corporation, as well as large-scale public art projects across the United States and internationally.
