Artist Profile
Katie Kaur
British artist
Katie Kaur (b. 2000) is a London-based British artist of Indian and European descent whose painting practice explores liminal states of being through the metaphor of submersion. Her work evokes the sensation of being underwater—where time slows, light diffuses, and perception becomes fluid—creating dreamlike compositions inhabited by ghostly, drifting figures. Using a restrained palette, Kaur builds delicate layers of diluted pigment, allowing images to emerge gradually and atmospherically. Interventions such as hand-stitched canvas introduce subtle ruptures in surface and space, suggesting moments suspended between presence and disappearance. Drawing on the symbolic resonance of the Punjabi river as both a life-giving and dividing force, her work reflects on emotional, cognitive, and cultural currents, inviting contemplation on stillness, vulnerability, and the tension between surrender and survival.
