Artist Profile
Ana Montoya
Colombian artist based in France
Ana Montoya is a Colombian artist based in Marseille whose practice is shaped by a lifelong engagement with nature, craft traditions, and textile-based forms of expression. Raised in the rural Andes of Colombia, Montoya studied anthropology before working with Indigenous communities in the Amazon region, where she developed a deep appreciation for traditional craft practices, particularly textile work. These experiences became foundational to her artistic language and continue to inform her exploration of materiality, memory, and cultural connection. After moving to New York, she studied weaving and immersed herself in fiber art, later continuing her textile studies in Barcelona. Over time, her practice evolved from weaving toward collage, which now serves as her primary mode of expression. Through layered compositions and tactile processes, Ana Montoya creates works that reflect migration, identity, and the enduring dialogue between handmade traditions and contemporary art.
