Artist Profile
Jennifer Bell
Contemporary artist based in Brisbane
Jennifer Bell is a contemporary artist based in Brisbane whose practice transforms repurposed waste materials into intricate, vibrant works exploring perception, pattern, and sustainability. Working primarily with recycled cardboard and acrylic paint, Bell cuts, tears, moulds, and assembles discarded shipping materials into richly textured compositions that challenge conventional ideas of paper as a medium. Central to her practice is a commitment to environmental responsibility, using reclaimed materials to reveal the aesthetic and creative potential of waste. Her work is also deeply informed by her experience of a rare neuro-ophthalmological condition associated with persistent visual disturbances, reflected through dynamic repetitions, bold colour, and kaleidoscopic detail. Through layered abstract forms and rhythmic mark-making, Bell translates her heightened perception of the world into immersive visual experiences that celebrate beauty within everyday materials and overlooked patterns.
