Alexia López Sosa
Mexican artist
Alexia López Sosa is a prize-winning Mexican painter, printmaker, and sculptor whose work has been exhibited throughout Mexico as well as internationally in France and Argentina. Rooted in an environmentally conscious practice, she works extensively with recycled and recovered materials—transforming discarded wood, fabric, damaged doors, paper scraps, and everyday objects into richly textured supports and surfaces—while extending the life of her tools through constant reinvention. Her process also includes the artisanal production of paints, varnishes, and handmade paper using natural ingredients, reflecting a sustained commitment to reducing waste and toxicity within artistic production. Across her compositions, recurring motifs such as the mountain, the chair, and the wild herb become poetic symbols through which she explores dreams, memory, nature, and transformation through time. López Sosa describes her art as “a coded transcription” of herself, an intimate act of pouring memories, dreams, and landscapes onto the canvas, where her deep reverence for the natural world and her ecological ethos converge.
