Cadence Yee
Multidisciplinary artist based in British Columbia
Cadence Yee is a multidisciplinary artist based in Burnaby, British Columbia, whose practice spans painting, textiles, sculpture, print media, Indigenous carving, and toolmaking. Drawing inspiration from the natural world—particularly aquatic life and marine ecosystems—her work reflects a deep appreciation for the ocean and its diverse inhabitants. Through intricate material processes, Yee explores texture, form, and storytelling, often combining traditional and contemporary techniques to create richly layered works. Her practice is grounded in textiles and printmaking, with a particular focus on intaglio etching, while the incorporation of glass beadwork and embroidery adds tactile depth and delicate detail. As a Fine Arts student at Langara College, Yee continues to develop an interdisciplinary approach that celebrates the beauty and complexity of nature while fostering meaningful connections between craft, materiality, and environmental awareness. Her work contributes to ongoing conversations around ecological appreciation, cultural knowledge, and sustainable relationships with the natural world.
