Cristiano Mangovo
Angolan artist
Cristiano Mangovo is an Angolan artist whose multidisciplinary practice is shaped by personal experience, social observation, and political consciousness. Educated at the École des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa, where he earned a BA in Fine Art, Mangovo has also undertaken training in performance and urban scenography, informing the expansive and narrative qualities of his work. Through painting, installation, and mixed-media approaches, he examines themes of power, inequality, migration, memory, and the contradictions of contemporary African societies. His work combines vivid visual language with critical reflection, creating compelling commentaries on both local realities and global concerns. Mangovo received early institutional recognition with his first solo exhibition at the Foundation of Art and Culture in Luanda in 2013 and has since exhibited widely across Africa and Europe. His achievements include the Mirella Antognoli Prize in 2014 and the ENSA Art Prize in 2018. In 2017, his retrospective exhibition and large-scale installation Riches of Africa marked a significant milestone in his career, reaffirming his position as one of the leading voices in contemporary Angolan art.
