Artist Profile

Pratchaya Charernsook (b. 1997, Chumphon, Thailand) is a visual artist whose practice examines the environmental impact of ocean waste and the complex relationship between human activity and coastal ecosystems. Working with discarded marine debris, microplastics, and everyday waste collected from shorelines and urban environments, she transforms found materials into works that reflect on ecological change, consumption, and environmental responsibility. Inspired by the rapidly changing landscape of Hat Sai Ri Beach in her hometown of Chumphon, her practice combines material investigation with social and environmental inquiry, questioning humanity's role in the global waste crisis. Charernsook holds both BFA and MFA degrees from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University. Her work has received numerous awards, including the Regional Winner of the Southeast Asia Painting of the Year (2023), the UOB Painting of the Year Award, Established Artist Category (2023), and the Bronze Medal in Multimedia at the 69th National Exhibition of Art (2024). She has presented solo and group exhibitions throughout Thailand and internationally, including exhibitions in the United States and Hong Kong.
