Artist Profile

Liu Qingran is a London-based visual artist and graduate of the MA Textiles programme at the Royal College of Art, whose interdisciplinary practice bridges textiles and moving image to explore the relationships between material, memory, and the body. Drawing inspiration from natural rhythms, displacement, and the passage of time, she transforms personal and cultural experiences into tactile, atmospheric works that balance structure with intuition. Using the Dubied knitting machine as a conceptual framework, Liu investigates the interplay of order and change, allowing yarn, colour, and texture to evolve into layered expressions of identity, nostalgia, and emotional ambiguity. Her work also examines the dialogue between image and textile, treating memory as something that can be printed, deconstructed, and reassembled into spaces that hover between reality and abstraction. Through exhibitions, residencies, and interdisciplinary collaborations, Liu continues to develop a practice that invites quiet reflection and renewed connections between people, place, and lived experience.
