Artist Profile

Waleed Mohammed (Wamo) is a Sudanese visual artist based in Nairobi, Kenya, whose multidisciplinary practice explores memory, displacement, identity, and belonging. Working across painting, photography, mixed media, archival materials, textiles, and installation, he transforms found and reclaimed objects into visual narratives shaped by personal and collective histories. By treating photographs, documents, fabrics, and everyday materials as carriers of memory, Mohammed examines how traces of experience survive conflict, migration, and loss. His practice positions reuse as both a material process and an act of remembrance, giving overlooked objects new meaning while reflecting on the complexities of identity, exile, and belonging.
