Artist Profile
Iwonk
Indonesian contemporary sculptor
Iwonk (Ridwan) is an Indonesian contemporary sculptor whose practice explores the human body, materiality, and environmental change. Working with discarded plastic and other used materials, he examines the relationship between human life, consumption, and the ecological consequences of waste. His life-size figurative sculpture The Residual Bodytransforms synthetic waste into a fragmented bodily form, evoking processes of erosion, decomposition, and transformation while imagining the human figure as a kind of “future fossil.” Through material experimentation, Iwonk reflects on the traces humanity leaves behind and considers how waste can become both a record of contemporary life and a medium for questioning our relationship with the environment.
