Artist Profile

Lai Sutweng is a Macau-born artist whose practice is centered primarily on oil painting and the complex relationship between humanity and nature. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Macao Polytechnic Institute and a Master’s degree in Oil Painting from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. In 2014, she received the Fundação Oriente Art Award, with her work subsequently entering the foundation’s collection. Through painting, Lai explores the tension between human dependence on nature and the impulse to resist or challenge it, offering a contemporary reflection on the fragile and often contradictory relationship between people and the natural world.
