Martina Petrović Matković
Croatian visual artist
Martina Petrović Matković (Zagreb) is a Croatian visual artist who lives and works in Zagreb. She holds an MFA in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, and a BA in Art History and Ethnology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her artistic practice encompasses painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, and photography, through which she explores the relationship between reality and imagination, the individual and the spaces they inhabit. Drawing inspiration from people, urban environments, architecture, everyday encounters, and fragments of her immediate surroundings, she transforms familiar scenes into personal and imaginative narratives where the real and the surreal intertwine. Collage plays a significant role in her process as both a technique and a way of constructing meaning, allowing her to deconstruct and reassemble visual fragments into new compositions. Through layered imagery, symbolic elements, and shifting relationships between figures, objects, animals, and spaces, Petrović Matković creates poetic visual worlds that reflect the complexity of memory, perception, and lived experience. She has exhibited her work in Croatia and internationally.
