Artist Profile

Mihael Frančić (b. 1998, Split) is a Croatian painter who received his MA in Painting from the Arts Academy in Split in 2023. His practice explores power, control, vulnerability, and alienation through figurative painting informed by contemporary digital culture. In his series Another Kind of Realism, realistic depictions of animals are juxtaposed with the reduced spaces and block-like aesthetics of early video games, creating a tension between the controlled logic of digital worlds and the uncertainty of lived experience. Drawing on personal encounters and broader histories of social and physical violence, Frančić uses contemporary visual language to reflect on human relationships, systems of power, and the fragile illusion of choice.
