Artist Profile

Ding Shilun (b. 1998) is a Chinese contemporary artist whose narrative oil paintings weave together personal mythology, popular culture, and Chinese religious and cultural traditions. Drawing inspiration from Japanese manga and Western pop culture, he introduces fantastical and mythological elements into familiar domestic settings, transforming the absurdities of everyday life and complex emotional experiences into vivid pictorial narratives. His distinctive visual language combines imaginative storytelling with a fluid, layered painting technique inspired by traditional Chinese painting. Through richly detailed compositions, Shilun blurs the boundaries between the ordinary and the extraordinary, creating evocative worlds where personal experience, cultural symbolism, and fantasy converge.
