Artist Profile
Oli Epp
British contemporary painter
Oli Epp is a British contemporary painter whose work examines the contradictions and anxieties of life in the twenty-first century. A graduate of the City & Guilds of London Art School, where he received a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2017, Epp explores identity, consumerism, addiction, and the psychological pressures of the digital age through a distinctive visual language that merges pop aesthetics with darker social commentary. His paintings feature exaggerated, cartoon-like figures with enlarged heads, elongated limbs, and flattened forms, using the body as a lens through which to examine personal identity and relationships with the wider world. Beneath their bright colours and playful surfaces, these avatar-like characters reveal inner conflicts, vulnerability, and the pursuit of perfection shaped by contemporary culture. By echoing the flatness and luminosity of digital screens, Epp’s work questions how technology influences self-image, authenticity, and the performance of identity in an increasingly mediated society.
