Sholto Blissett
London-based contemporary painter
Sholto Blissett (b. 1996, Salisbury, UK) is a London-based contemporary painter whose fictional landscapes explore the complex relationship between humanity and the natural world. After studying Geography at Durham University, he completed an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London. Blissett is known for depicting architectural follies within rugged, often uncanny landscapes, where classical structures merge with trees, rocks, and other natural forms. By omitting human figures while retaining traces of human presence through architecture, he questions the perceived boundaries between culture and wilderness, history and biology, and humanity and nature. His paintings challenge the idea that humans exist separately from their environment, instead imagining worlds in which human constructions are absorbed into the living landscape. Through these evocative scenes, Blissett invites viewers to reconsider humanity’s place within nature and the impossibility of existing beyond its limits.
