Catherine Fleming is a self-taught 24 year old artist based in Galway city, Ireland. Hailing from the coastal village of Spiddal in Connemara, the influence of the sea is evident in many of her paintings, though often with a surreal or abstract twist. As a child, Catherine spent most of her primary school years focusing on realism, predominantly portraits and botanical drawings. As she grew older, the more obscure began to interest her. Catherine’s primary interest had then become combining the ideas of both realism and abstract together, which can be seen in her paintings today. Catharine’s main sources of inspiration are music, poetry, dreams and most recently trying to capture the concept of anxiety through art.
