Artist Profile
Ademola Ojo
Nigerian visual artist
Ademola Ojo (b. 1995) is a Nigerian visual artist based in Ile-Ife, whose painting practice draws deeply from Yoruba history and symbolism. Working primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas, he engages with traditional visual languages—particularly scarification patterns inspired by the Ife Bronze Heads—reinterpreting them as contemporary markers of identity, lineage, and individuality. His large-scale compositions function as visual archives, bridging ancient cosmologies with present-day narratives while reflecting on themes of heritage, resistance, and transformation. Positioned within a new generation of contemporary African artists, Ojo’s work merges aesthetic refinement with cultural inquiry, offering layered perspectives on the continuity and evolution of Yoruba identity.
