Alanah Jarvis is an Australian artist and environmental advocate whose practice combines sustainable innovation with a deep connection to the natural world. A former scuba instructor, Jarvis witnessed firsthand the impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems, an experience that continues to shape both her materials and artistic philosophy. In 2023, she founded Sustainable Canvas, Australia’s first artist canvas made entirely from recycled plastic bottles, pioneering a more environmentally conscious approach to artmaking. Working across abstract and realist painting, her richly textured Abstract Weathered Series explores the marks left by wind, water, and time on natural surfaces, while her Realistic Ocean Series captures the movement and atmosphere of coastal landscapes. Through layered textures, earthy palettes, and erosion-inspired techniques, Jarvis creates works that evoke the beauty and resilience of the environment while promoting a vision of sustainable artistic practice where creativity and ecological responsibility coexist.
