Artist Profile
Amani Azhari
Sudanese artist based in Kenya
Amani Azhari (b. 1998) is a Sudanese visual artist whose work explores themes of identity, empowerment, and the complexities of womanhood within restrictive societal frameworks. A graduate of the University of Sudan, where she earned her Bachelor's in Fine and Applied Arts in 2022, Amani has participated in numerous exhibitions across Sudan. Her artistic journey has since taken her to Kampala, Uganda, and currently, she works from her studio in Nairobi, Kenya. Amani's art is deeply influenced by intimate sessions with young women, where shared thoughts and experiences of societal constraints become the foundation for her expressive work. By incorporating elements of her own identity and using girls as a central motif, she portrays the vulnerabilities, fears, and hidden beauty that emerge in spaces often silenced by societal norms. Through these narratives, Amani fosters a dialogue about personal and collective resilience.
