Ana Raquel Machava, also known as Yaki, is a Mozambican artist, working with paintings and photography. Yaki’s paintings look at the questions of labor and the visible and invisible work of black bodies in our societies, trying to invite reflections on the position of black labor in relation to other races and societies all over the world, although aware of the Afro-pessimism that influences these often depictions, Yaki channels the spirit of Dicuemba to assist on giving dignity to the black body on the process. The process of channeling appears in Ana’s self-portraits and collage images that are produced during the painting process, they are not representations, they are the process of channeling, in this case, with Dicuemba.
