Basheera Ohuni Abdulsalam
Visual artist based in Nigeria
Basheera Ohuni Abdulsalam (b. 1998, Warri, Nigeria) is a visual artist based in Kaduna, working across acrylic, oil, watercolor, pencil, and digital media—treating each medium as a distinct voice for exploring emotion, vulnerability, poetry, and identity. She earned a B.A. in Fine Arts, specializing in Painting, from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2019, and has since built a growing presence through exhibitions. In 2023, she received a Certificate of Excellence from the Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in a national art competition. Drawn to expressive, impressionistic portraiture and figurative compositions, Basheera creates emotionally resonant works that unfold intuitively, often in series that examine layered inner experiences. Marked by vibrant color, fluid lines, and dynamic brushwork, her practice invites viewers into a poetic space where self-acceptance, introspection, and authentic living are quietly celebrated.
