Artist Profile

Camilla Ryd is a Stockholm-based artist and designer whose practice is guided by a deep engagement with the natural world and a commitment to environmentally responsible art-making. Inspired by science, natural history and the long timescales of geological and ecological change, she explores themes of transformation, resilience and interconnectedness through painting and drawing. Working primarily with traditional oil painting techniques, Ryd carefully selects sustainable materials and processes, favouring safflower oil-based paints, linen canvas and studio practices that minimise environmental impact. Conscious of both artist and ecosystem, she uses solvents and thinners chosen for their reduced toxicity and ecological footprint. Her layered paintings draw on observations of ancient flora, volcanic landscapes and other natural forms that speak to both environmental history and contemporary concerns.
