Artist Profile

Daniel Longo
Emerging Australian artist

Daniel Longo is an emerging Australian artist based in Melbourne, currently completing his Master of Fine Art at RMIT University. His multidisciplinary practice focuses on the grotesque, particularly exploring fragmented and disfigured bodies through digital pseudo-surgical techniques. Longo uses photography, video, sculpture, and sound to investigate human desire and societal taboos, blending elements of Gothic and Body Horror genres. His work is influenced by his background in theatre photography, with a focus on chiaroscuro lighting and the construction of evocative studio sets.

Longo’s art aims to probe the depths of the human psyche, unearthing hidden aspects of personal and societal experience. Drawing on sources such as anatomical theatres, Victorian freak shows, and fetish culture, he challenges conventional norms while engaging with philosophical discourses on taboo, horror, and abjection.
