Artist Profile
Esra Rahma
Sudanese painter based in Uganda
Esra Rahma is a Sudanese painter and researcher based in Kampala, Uganda, whose work explores memory, social justice, and the human experience. Using acrylics and pen, she creates paintings that capture emotion and reflect on how life’s circumstances shape personal and collective memory. Rahma’s practice investigates the memory of place, post-colonial narratives, and the intersections of the humanities and memory studies, asking how external crises and societal change affect our sense of self and connection to the world. Through her art, she fosters dialogue around social protection, resilience, and the restoration of human relationships with place and life.
