Artist Profile
Fiona Macpherson
Australian artist
Fiona Macpherson (b. 2000) is an artist practicing on Gadigal land. Working through a post-photographic painting practice while engaging with an autobiographical narrative of trauma, her work seeks to confront the social psychology of cognitive dissonance and the unreliability of photographs. Locating the body as the site of both trauma and healing, her work draws upon the internal conflicts surrounding intimacy and vulnerability in the aftermath of sexual violence. Through painting and a variety of other media, Fiona explores the contrasting themes of silence and visibility, surface and underside, and tenderness and rage. She lives and works in Sydney, NSW, and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at UNSW Art & Design in 2022.
