Artist Profile

Ghaida Ashraf
Egyptian artist
Ghaida Ashraf (b. 1994, Alexandria, Egypt) is a contemporary Egyptian artist whose work explores the poetic and mythical evolution of life before humanity through a visual language grounded in abstract organic painting. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Alexandria University (2017), her early talent was recognized when L'Atelier D'Alexandrie hosted her graduation project in 2016, followed by a year-long residency at MASS Alexandria under the mentorship of Wael Shawky, during which she participated in both their annual group exhibition and the 27th Youth Salon. Inspired by primitive organisms (cells, plants, and animals) Ghaida constructs layered compositions that evolve from geometric stillness into fluid, dynamic forms, mirroring the perpetual transformation inherent in all living systems. Navigating timeless and placeless realms, she crafts her own mythologies through vibrant colour fields and non-linear narratives, meditating on evolution, interconnectedness, and the unseen forces that shape creation. With participation in numerous exhibitions across Egypt and abroad, Ghaida emerges as a rising voice among women in contemporary Middle Eastern art, offering a distinctly introspective and speculative vision of life’s beginnings.
