Artist Profile
Ibrahim Romman
Saudi photographer
Born in 1995 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Lives and works between Jeddah and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ibrahim Romman is a research-driven artist and cultural worker. He questions the divisions between the East and West by re-appropriating found material and explores Arab cultural identity through semiotics, visual language, and the decisions that lead us to our chosen aesthetics. By studying what is popularly understood as Arab culture, he questions impressions of opulence and success, and focuses particularly on notions of beauty and style standards – many of which have been appropriated by Arabs through their travels abroad. Romman completed a bachelor’s degree in graphic design at the Camberwell College of Arts, London.
