Artist Profile
IyunOla Sanyaolu
Lagos-based visual artist
IyunOla Sanyaolu (b. 1998) is a Lagos-based visual artist whose practice merges painting and sculptural processes to explore materiality, memory, and transformation. A graduate of the University of Lagos with a degree in painting, she has developed a distinctive technique she calls “sculpting with paint,” using paint residues to build richly textured surfaces that embody layering and tactility. Her work investigates the dialogue between abstraction and form, often engaging with themes of movement, impermanence, and the traces we leave behind. A 2021 alumna of the Rele Arts Foundation’s Young Contemporaries program, Sanyaolu has exhibited internationally, including her debut solo exhibition While We Roam at Rele Gallery, Los Angeles.
