Artist Profile

Justine Watt
Sculptor based in UK
Justine Watt is a sculptor based in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, specializing in installation/sculpture, contemporary craft, and sustainable design. A 2024 Sculpture BA Hons graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, Watt’s practice centers on transforming mundane, domestic artifacts of daily existence, exploring the relationship between the corporeal and the crafted. The modularity inherent in her sculptures facilitates assembly and imbues her work with a cyclical narrative, inviting continuous reinterpretation. Recently, Watt has been working with discarded beech chairs destined for landfill, employing traditional woodworking methods like steam bending and kerfing to renew and regenerate these unwanted objects, offering viewers a chance to re-appreciate them. The laborious processes inherent in her approach, steeped in repetition, renewal, and meditative rhythm, evoke echoes of domesticity, the value of labor, and timeless rituals of craftsmanship.
