Katanu Kay Sanna
Young artist from Kenya
Katanu Kay Sanna is an artist based in Nairobi, Kenya. From a young age, she has been deeply engaged in art, earning several awards during her schooling. In 2018, she received a scholarship to study at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) for a year and a half. Katanu has participated in workshops on block printing led by Peterson Kamwathi and took part in an art residency at The Karen Village. Currently, she is active in exhibiting and curating art for fellow artists, organizing events, and tutoring. Alongside fellow creative Ann Christine, she is working to establish a company that focuses on creating immersive and artistic spaces. Her work is inspired by African beauty and modern and traditional African culture. Katanu art-making process includes merging kitenge fabric (African printed fabrics) with the medium of painting.
