Artist Profile

Liz Benítez de la Llera
Cuban photographer
Liz Benítez de la Llera’s artistic journey began early, nurtured by a family friend who introduced her to painting, drawing, pottery, printing, and art history. Immersed from a young age in diverse artistic expressions, Liz developed a particular passion for photography—a family tradition sparked by memories of her grandmother using a Rolleiflex camera and old family photographs. Despite financial limitations that delayed access to a digital camera, Liz pursued other creative outlets like metalwork while earning degrees in Plastic Arts and Social Communication from Habana University, alongside teaching art to primary school children. In 2016, inspired by a free photography course and borrowing a camera from a friend, she committed to photography professionally, studying at Habana’s School of Creative Photography (EFCH). Today, Liz captures the everyday beauty of Havana’s streets, focusing on ordinary people, neighborhoods, and the seaside. Her work transforms the commonplace into radiant stories, reflecting her deep emotional connection to Cuban culture and geography. Through her lens, she seeks to share the soul of Cuba with the world, leaving a lasting imprint of her personal and geographic transitions in evocative images.
