Luh’De Gita

Artist Profile

Luh’De Gita
Balinese painter
Luh’De Gita (b. 1997, Bali) is a Balinese painter whose practice examines identity, landscape, and the pressures of globalization on her homeland. Navigating Bali’s tension between sacred tradition and tourist spectacle, she creates works that merge realism and abstraction, often displayed on Balinese textile hangers or suspended like ceremonial cloths—subtly referencing the commodification of culture. A graduate of Institut Teknologi Bandung (BFA Painting, 2020) and the Royal College of Art (MA Painting, 2025), she has exhibited internationally across Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines, and New York. Influenced by digital world-building platforms like The Sims, Gita constructs painterly spaces that parallel the manufactured image of paradise, engaging decolonial perspectives and cultural memory through experimental oil painting.
