Artist Profile
Malinda Jayasinghe
Visual artist based in Sri Lanka
Malinda Jayasinghe, born in Gampaha, Sri Lanka, is a visual artist whose work explores themes of religious, racial, and gender privilege, as well as complicity in structural oppression. Using drawing, painting, and sculpture, he examines collective identity and its formation, while experimenting with unconventional materials like wood, concrete, and glass shards to address identity, land, and borders. A self-taught artist, Jayasinghe began his career in 2019 after completing a Bachelor’s in Economics and Finance. Initially focused on photo-realism through pencil portraiture, his practice evolved after studying Art History at Theertha International Artists Collective, leading him to adopt a more concept-driven approach that integrates socio-political themes.
