Mashir Kresenshun is a South African mixed-media artist whose practice explores identity, cultural memory, and the construction of belonging through painting, drawing, collage, and found cardboard. Working between figurative representation and abstraction, he examines his experience as a South African of Indian heritage, using layered materials and fragmented surfaces as metaphors for the fluid and evolving nature of culture. His Indian Trade Series draws on archival photography and the history of the Indian spice trade to reflect on migration, exchange, and multicultural identity, while his abstract cardboard works investigate processes of construction and deconstruction through rhythmic, ritual-like compositions. By transforming everyday packaging materials into complex visual narratives, Kresenshun creates works that question cultural permanence and celebrate the layered realities of contemporary society.
