Artist Profile

Melina Ahmad
Queer disabled artist
Melina Ahmad is a young, queer, disabled artist whose work communicates their personal story. After developing postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, a chronic illness that left them bedbound, Ahmad was unable to create art for a year. However, they gradually regained their strength, eventually pursuing visual art through small works, then progressing to ambitious watercolors, sculptures, and mixed-media pieces. Inspired by their experience, Ahmad now studies neuroscience and visual art at Bryn Mawr College, with plans to attend graduate school for neuroscience research, while continuing to explore and celebrate the human body through both art and science.
